Business meeting:
The business meeting was called to order by Diana who offered a brief explanation about the purpose of today’s white elephant auction. The money will be used specifically for special projects. There was some discussion (pro & con) about asking Aunt Elv permission to have a rock or sign put on the homestead to commemorate the farm’s 100th year [2007]. Dave said that if Aunt Elv gives permission, he would be willing to look into the state program that honors centennial farms to see what the process is. Diana emphasized that no final decisions have been made about the content of the special project, we just wanted to have money available to use for special projects. Ron stated that the white elephant auction raised $418.50 and then motioned to table the discussion about any projects related to the homestead as permission needs to be granted from Aunt Elv before discussion can occur. Dave seconded the motion to move on.
The next reunion will be on the fourth Sunday in June at the Hideaway and Ron said that he would take care of securing the site. Ron advised that this year it was $90 to reserve the location with an additional fee charged for over 75 people in attendance. He said that he was warned by park personnel that the fees may go up again next year.
The hat was passed for donations and $120 was collected and from that money $41 was paid to Jennifer for paper goods purchased for the reunion. The remaining $79 dollars will be deposited along with the white elephant money into the reunion account maintained by Ron and Anne who retain control over the account.
Diana asked for volunteers to be in charge of the children’s games next year but no one volunteered.
Jack suggested that next year the men cookout at the Hideaway “to give the women a break” and promptly earned a round of applause from the women. After some discussion about the merits of the reunion fund buying the meat or people bringing their own, Dave volunteered to provide the meat which Jack seconded.
Diana asked for a little feedback about what people liked about the reunion and what they would like to see at future reunions. Sally mentioned that she liked the music and singing that was at a previous reunion but mentioned that it would need to be early in the day before people started leaving. Several people said that they thought the pie judging contest was fun. Barbie suggested that in order for the different branches of the family tree to get to know each other, we could play a trivia game. People would have to submit their questions ahead of time and then we could all have fun guessing which trivia belongs to which branch of the family. Daphne mentioned that she has been to reunions where they played bingo using family trivia which was a lot of fun. Diana mentioned that we already have some bingo cards from a previous year when family trivia was played so that was a strong possibility.
Diana said that she would be president for one more year but was interested in having someone step up as vice president this year (2007-2008) so he or she would be ready to take over the following year (2008-2009). Please contact Diana if you have any interest in this position. The meeting was adjourned.
